Dar Holdsworth - Texas Race Report
A boyhood dream came true for me this past weekend at Texas World Speedway. I got to be a race car driver, if only for a snapshot in time. I had no expectations coming into the weekend other than having fun and soaking up the experience. THAT I DID. But it would not have been possible without the training I got at the hands of Cindi Lux, and support from Fred Lux and the entire Lux Performance Group team. But racing a Viper was incredible and I need to tell the world about how car this car is.
On Friday when Cindi took me around as a passenger in my Dodge ACRX Viper that I was going to race this weekend for the first time, my eyes went open wide when she hit the throttle...and the brakes. There is no question I could not have done it without the precision coaching from Cindi Lux. They brought me along at just the right pace to get me up to pace with the other "real drivers". The violent power of the Viper invokes an out of body experience.
The other drivers, strategically practice and qualify with as little laps as possible in order to save their tires and brakes and personal stamina... Not me baby! I used every minute I could to be on the track... over and over again. It was sooo much freakin' fun! The Viper was more than unbelievable. The more comfortable I got, the quicker I got but not fast like the front runners however.
I met so many wonderful people that I would like to thank. LisaKay got me squared away. Terry explained racing rules, Rob and Aaron were great filling in the blanks and being patient with my stupid questions. Steve Sharples, Gary Johnson, Brian Viger and the entire Dodge corporate team, thank you for making this possible. Tom Hnatiw and Jeff Jay were wonderful on video production. Roger Meiners, thanks for getting all the shots.
My sincerest thanks to Cindi and Fred Lux and their amazing team, Dodge Motorsports, Shell Pennzoil Ultra, Michelin Tires, Dodge Viper Cup Series, NARRA, Pros For Vets, The National Breast Cancer Coalition and the other drivers who made this possible. I can’t wait to see it on TV this fall. I will be calling all my friends to have them watch the most special day of my summer. Thank you Dodge so much.
