Allen Johnson - Pocono Race Report
My racing endeavor at Pocono Race way in the Viper Cup Series was actually one of my favorite things I have ever done. Turning left and right on a race course is something very new to me. Of course i am mad at myself for not pushing a little more and being competitive, but that will come later.
The Vipers are remarkable race cars to drive. The team of Lux Performance owned by Cindi and Fred Lux was top notch and they were so accommodating to all my needs. The crew they give me to work on my car was also awesome; they treated me like royalty and were right there for every thing. This new Viper Cup Series is excellent and people need to find out about it. It’s a gold mine!
The actual track at Pocono was a little intimidating at first with all the speed into turn 1 and turn 2, it actually took me three or four practice sessions to push it even close to the cars limit, and i never pushed it all the way, maybe next time. But doing 170+ on the banked oval was incredible and car was very stable as well.
The actual races where so fun especially with driving in both the wet and dry conditions. I stayed close to the pack for several laps on each race. Bu there was some hard core racing going on by several of the competitors and I had the best seat in the house to watch it. It would be some really good TV on Versus when it airs.
I would advise anyone that loves road racing; go learn about this new Dodge Viper Cup Series. The professional team that Dodge Motorsports trusted this program makes the drivers feel right at home which makes the event even better for us rookies. So all you Viper and Mopar fans out there check out this new series!! I hope to someday race with Cindi and continue my road racing education. Now I understand why she loves Vipers so much. It was nothing short of AWESOME!!
