What a busy 4 days we spent in the Colorado Springs/Pueblo area! Let me explain...
Scotty and I arrived a day early to visit our friend Sean at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. We have been working with the Sports Psychology Department for about a year now and its extremely helpful and eye opening! Friday morning we signed up for the test and tune day to see where this track went... considering we had never been there before. Also on this day, the folks from the NBC The Today Show were there to film a little background stuff on our team. The segment will air May 7. So between getting in A LOT of testing and trying to get all the filming accomplished, it was a super busy day. On Saturday, the "official" race weekend had now started. There were 6 total T1 Corvette cars in our class. It was the Colorado based team's home track and they definitely had the ole' home court advantage! In fact, we made a friendly bet with the other team: our 3 cars against their 3 cars. Based on the total points from the finishing position in the 1st race, the losing team had to buy the other team and crew dinner PLUS wear the others team's shirts to dinner!!! Bob Schaeder, Amadee Moran and Chris Ash were all good sports and needless to say.... had to put down the ole' credit card for dinner for our team!! We also invited the Colorado Corvette Club out to for a little hospitality lunch and track tour on Saturday. It was a great site to see all the corvettes caravan into the track. We had a great time chatting and eating with everybody. The race on Saturday was a lot of fun. My teammate and good buddy Scotty qualified on the pole in T1 and overall position! Nice job. I ended up 3rd in qualifying right behind Schaeder. During the race, Bob and I had a great/fun battle. Very aggressive but clean.........I will race door to door with that guy anytime! So at the checker NayKid Racing came in 1st, 3rd and 6th place............good enough to win the bet! The second race on Sunday was a much better day for me. Qualified on the pole, won the race and established a new lap record as well. The "trifecta" of the day. Things just finally came together and the old red #78 car really stepped up to the plate. Scotty had the pleasure of fighting a race long battle with Schaeder and ended up in a super close 3rd position. In fact, the top 3 cars were running under the existing track record! Our 3rd teammate Ryan did a great job bring home his car in 4th place. Great improvement for him!! I was really impressed with him. So now our next race is back home in Portland but before we do that we take our cars and transporter out to Suburban Chevrolet for their annual Cruise In May 2. That is a fun event!! Until next time.... |
