The first day (and it was a bit taxing).
Well, the first day of the Women's Global GT Series is now past. It was practice today. Woke up and it was pouring down rain! Even Portlanders would be proud of how hard it rained. Nerves were a little rattled to say the least.
Got to the track and went through registration and saw a bunch of "old" friends from our California days. Man, are we getting old or what?
First session out was uneventful for yours truly. It had stopped raining but the track was wet. Somewhat of a rain line, but not much. I was flopping around on track just taking it easy. The series cars have 90 hp more and are 500 lb. heavier that the school Panoz cars we tested in. Well, unfortunately two drivers had HARD contact out on track and sustained severe damage. They blacked flagged both wrecks and rolled the ambulances twice. I was happy just to end the session.
At 2:30 PM, we went out for our 2nd session. It was dry but I personally didn't have a good session. Didn't drive as well as I thought I should have. I ran in the top 1/3 of the field. Lots of people are running within 2/10th of each other.
Being in a spec. series, it was amazing how difficult it was to pass!! It took me 5 laps to get around 2 slower cars. Wow, I have some learning to do!!
Hope tomorrow goes a little better. No rain is scheduled for Friday but rain on Sat. and Sunday. Hmmm..... This could get very interesting.
Off to bed now. Will drop you another note after qualifying tomorrow.
