There is something magical about arriving at Laguna Seca raceway. As you drive in the aura of motor racing and the history of the track hits you. I truly believe this place is one of the most beautiful racetracks in the United States.
Well, we drew for cars this morning. I used to think I was a lucky person! I was looking forward to NOT having the #14 car that I drove at Portland and Atlanta. I drew the #21 car. Even though this wasn't the #14 car, it was however the car at Atlanta that one of my friends crashed HARD into the concrete barrier and moved it 4 feet! So the car has a new front end on it, so much for good luck.
We had 2 practice sessions. Besides the usual gremlins with a car that had major work performed on it, the driver had their fair share of difficulties!
Somehow I had managed to trap 3 to 4 bees in my driver suit and didn't realize it until they started stinging me on my shoulder and arms! It hurt like crazy. So there I was driving around the track trying to get my gloves off and open up my suit to get them out. I could feel them crawling around. Now that is a new first!
The second session out was much better. We are slowly working up to pace. The car still has a hard shutter under braking. Not a rotor problem but something else.
I always enjoy the test day because its so much more relaxed than the next three days to come. The weather is wonderful and the sun is out. Keith and Fred arrive tonight.
Cobalt is having a hospitality chalet this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday. It so nice to be working with a company that is enjoying motor racing so much. Their enthusiasm is great which inspires me even more.
Until tomorrow.
