 Returning to Sears Point Raceway this weekend with the Women's Global GT Series is something very special. This was the race last year that I won, which was my only win of the championship season. After the mechanical failure at Charlotte during the race last April, lets just say I have a personal mission to accomplish this weekend.
We did our usual draw for cars yesterday and I drew the black # 5 car. This is a car that I haven't driven before. The series made some suspension changes since the last race and let's just say it has changed the cars personality. So I had an even more challenging day trying to reacquaint myself to the track but now had to figure out the car. But that is the beauty of this series, it really puts the pressure on the driver figure out the car and how it "wants" to be driven.
There were two practice sessions today. I was faster in the first session than the second. I just tried to go out there, relax and drive the car. This is such a momentum track that I just wanted to "dance" with the car. I know this may sound silly, but at Sears Point, you can't fight the track, you have to get into a rhythm with it. Well, today I found that rhythm and everything went very well. In fact, timing and scoring indicated that I went faster that the existing track record from last year. So needless to say, I was happy with my times.
As some of you already know, qualifying has never been one of my strong points. This has been something I have been working on. So......... hopefully tomorrow things will come together. It's been a fun weekend so far. Fred and I are very fortunate to have some old and new friends here this weekend.
Well, it's time for bed for this one. Its time to dream, hopefully, of the "perfect lap".
