Qualifying:
Sometimes a race car driver has a good feeling about upcoming sessions on the track. And today was one of them. I think my husband Fred was more nervous than I. Because I had set a personal goal for trying to capture the pole, he really wanted me to achieve it.
My day actually started out at 3:00 am going over the track in my head. And for whatever reason, I couldn't get back to sleep. So I must have done 100 laps in my brain before I even got out of bed.
When we finally arrived at the track, it was a beautiful day. I met a friend of ours, Craig Stanton, for breakfast at the hospitality chalet. He is one awesome race car driver himself and it was a great way to start the day.
Our first session went out at 11:20 AM. I attempted a new plan at qualifying but it didn't work too well. So much for the fancy stuff. Unfortunately, this session was very sloppy both on the track and behind the wheel. I just couldn't get my act together and made several mistakes. I ended up 2nd quickest for the session.
The next session I made a small change to the car and got right with the program when I hit the track. I knew on the second lap that we were going to be in a good position. I just put my head down and drove nice smooth consistent laps. We not only ended up with the pole position but also set a new lap record in the process.
Let's just say it was a good day at the office!! But once again, qualifying is one thing and racing is another. Our race is early tomorrow morning. (Webmakers note: Go to www.americanlemans.com and click on Live to listen to Radio Le Mans)
Have met with the folks at Roock Motorsports regarding a few future races. Let's just say that the talks have begun but the underlying issue is going to be can we find funding. But we will have to take that one step at a time.
I may also have some news regarding the Petit Le Mans race in September at Road Atlanta very soon. So keep posted!
Well, its time for this one to get some sleep, hopefully a little more than last night!! I want this race very badly................. so tomorrow will be very interesting.
Let the green flag drop!!!
