Never in my life have I put in so much time and effort into just one race! After working all summer long setting up this race it is now coming to a head. I have to pinch myself to believe it's really happening.
I arrived in Atlanta to participate in a golf tournament at the Chateau Elan Legends Golf Course. OK, I really do not play golf. Probably a couple of times "hacking" away at that silly little white ball, but that's it!! There were 130 "real" players and about 25 racecar drivers. I got teamed up with the best 4 men ever. They really carried me and we had a blast. Played 18 holes and only lost 1 ball!!!
Tuesday was spent at the track meeting the crew with the G&W team and visiting my buds over at the WGGT pits. It was pretty strange watching from the pits as the WGGT cars took to the track for their test day. I don't know if it's good or bad, but I learned a great deal from the outside! I not sure if it was harder for me to be there just watching or for all the people who were doing double takes as they walked by me and then looked out at the track! There were lots of questions!
Finally, Wednesday came and it was my turn to go out there and drive. Today was our promoters test day. We had two 1-hour sessions. But when you divide it up with 2 other drivers, the actual time in the car is fairly minimal. I'd was say it was more like a tease!!
The car is incredible!! There are very few words that can describe how the car felt to me. It was awesome!! It worked so well and the entire team is excellent. We are very lucky to be a part of such a professional organization. Belinda and Divina did an outstanding job today. Neither of them put a wheel off the track. I am very blessed to have them as co-drivers.
After the last session, we started working on our pit stops and making drivers changes. And lets just say, we still need lots of work!!! It's a lot harder than it looks. We will work on that again tomorrow!!! We stunk!!
Tomorrow is another day with more track time. Keep your fingers crossed and thanks for checking in. Will drop you a note tomorrow. We run during the day and then we have a two hour night practice session as well. So tomorrow is a long day.
